EARLY PREGNANCIES

Four out of one hundred get pregnant every month, according to my research I find out that most of them are minor that is below the age of eighteen to eleven and mostly high school students and primary pupils. I carried out questionnaires and interviews only to find out that they do it willingly but it's not because they like it but because they are trying to do away with poverty.

It's such a pity that a  good number of them are naive and lack knowledge about sex especially the primary pupils. Some believe that one can not conceive if they do it once and those who usually get pregnant are the ones who have sex on a daily basis. Even though the government is providing free condoms they choose to have unprotected sex with the perception that protected sex is not sweet and that is how they end up getting unwanted pregnancies. On the other hand, some high school students tend to have sex with men in order to get money to buy personal effects and pocket money to spend at school, also, they want to live like other students from a well to do families. Poverty is the genesis of all these, some lost their parents and were left with the close relatives to look after them who later turned their back. They have to do everything on their own some ended up dropping out of school due to financial constraints and get married at early age and give birth. Sometimes, when their so called potential husband get tired and feel like changing diet they chase them away and that's how they remain single mom at early age or rather teen mom. This is how the number of teen moms increases after every single day.

The government should encourage the youths to use condoms by providing free and affordable condoms especially to those who have multiple sexual partners, this will not only prevent early pregnancies but also sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS. Should also encourage the youth to abstain and to those who can't abstain then to use family planning methods of their choice to eliminate early pregnancies. Although, family planning is good, I don't encourage it since it only prevents pregnancies and not sexually transmitted diseases.

Things like pads should be availed to students especially to the less fortunes and if possible, they should be given at least two pads at school every month. By so doing they will feel loved and be encouraged, students will not sleep around with men for money. Governmental organisation and non governmental organisation should create a forum meant for girl child empowerment and education and give them basic education about sex and how to handle different situations without depending on men for finances.

  4. As a true citizen of this country and a youth I am acutely alive to the fact that early pregnancy is on its exponential phase and the only thing that should be done is that the government should ensure that the many upcoming youth programs that are created by our fellers are not neglected but rather given support by the government because one fundamental aim is to enlighten the youths especially the girl child on the dangers of early pregnancy, but furthermore the government should ensure that individuals who engage in this malpractice are dealt with squarely in accordance to the law. This may not be enough and so in conclusion the government should provide the girl child their personal effects and so much done in consideration of the less fortunate ..
